The Hackney Flea Market Peep Show

Hackney Flea Market Flash

On our bite size East London market tour last weekend our first stop was the Hackney Flea Market in Dalston.

It’s a cosy affair held at the Abney Hall on Church Street, Stoke Newington. With old juke box tunes mixed with some interesting and eclectic stalls, we have to say it was a little winner.

The high street on Church Street is home to to many great independent shops and it communities embrace the alternative and local independent spirit. There are quite a few great Vintage and retro clothing and homeware shops on Church Street, so the Hackney Flea Market is at home here.

The trouble with small markets is they can often leave you wanting more, but when they’re well curated, like the Hackney Flea Market indeed is, you leave feeling satisfied and hopefully with one or two gems in your shopping back. About two thirds of the stalls at the Hackney Flea Market are vintage, and the last third sees a complimentary mix of designers, makers & artists. Like City Light Lamps below, which are vintage jars turned into lights. Completely stylish, very cool, love!

We’re massive fans of Mister Peebles illustrations and cards, so we were chuffed to bump into them. David Meowie was looking as fine as ever.

Vintage markets are either a trip down memory lane and a place to get nostalgic, or if you’re still the right side of 30 they can be pretty educational. I don’t remember these old milk bottles with advertising, which were on sale at Emma Loves, but they are completely awesome! We vote to bring back the milkman.

Whether you live locally to Stokey or you fancy a trip to this Dalston suburb, then the Hackney Flea is definitely worth a visit. Church Street doesn’t disappoint and the Hackney Flea Market won’t either.

The Christmas edition is on this weekend on both Saturday Dec 21 & Sunday 22. The aptly named HACKNEY FLEA-MAS.

The Hackney Flea is a bi-monthly regular market. The organisers also hold the DIY Market in the same venue, which will give us another reason to visit again! Find out more here.

If you stall at the Hackney Flea Market list yourself in our stall holders & small business directory.
